About

Balarat Outdoor Education provides instruction to Denver Public Schools students in environmental studies, western history, and outdoor leadership skills.

IMG_0041Balarat operates throughout the school year, facilitating outdoor learning by providing instructional materials, resource teachers, special outdoor learning sites, management of transportation, and housing and food service for overnight/residential excursions.

IMG_0485Balarat excursions have become an integral part of the Denver Public Schools’ curriculum. Although participation in Balarat outdoor learning excursion is not mandated, Balarat serves over 430 class, or approximately 10,000 students each year. Program activities are planned for each grade level and for the special interests/needs of each class.

Balarat Outdoor Education Center has been part of Denver Public Schools since the late 1960s.
